YMCA Aquatics Facility in South Carolina Enhances Water and Air Quality With Clear Comfort AOP
Rock Hill, South Carolina – May 30, 2019 – Using a patented Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) pool disinfection technology, the Upper Palmetto YMCA’s aquatics facility improved the feel of the water, reduced odor and lowered its environmental footprint.
After discovering the facility’s previous UV pool system needed repairs, Tim Conley, Branch Director of the Upper Palmetto YMCA, began testing Clear Comfort’s hydroxyl-based AOP supplemental disinfection and monitored its results.
“We didn’t tell the staff the Clear Comfort system was installed,” said Tim Conley, Branch Director and Head Swim Coach of the Upper Palmetto YMCA. “The first staff to notice were the swim instructors. They asked if we had stopped using chlorine.”
While the facility was still using chlorine, swimmers and staff noticed that the negative effects of chlorine significantly lessened.
In addition to using up to 80 to 90 percent less energy than the prior UV pool disinfection method, Clear Comfort’s AOP allows aquatics facilities to reduce their chemical use by up to 40 percent. With less chlorine use, aquatics facilities’ can lower their operational costs and environmental impact, while providing patrons and staff with better water and air quality.
“Our facility has 1,800 kids a day with swim teams in the evenings. We get comments that the water feels, looks and ‘tastes’ better,” Conley said. “Our instructors’ uniforms and our guests’ swimsuits are even lasting longer.”
Clear Comfort’s AOP systems work by producing hydroxyl radicals, one of the most potent oxidative compounds available for recreational water treatment. When introduced to pool water, hydroxyls can rapidly destroy unwanted and harmful contaminants and bacteria. An independent study found that Clear Comfort can reduce up to 90 percent of disinfection by-products, which can cause chlorine smell, irritation, asthma and other health issues in swimmers.
“We should be able to enjoy swimming without harming their health or the health of the planet,” said Steve Berens, CEO of Clear Comfort. “We are proud to help top-notch facilities like the Upper Palmetto YMCA offer these benefits to their members.”
Clear Comfort’s AOP systems make commercial and residential pools and spas healthy, easy and enjoyable. Pools and spas using Clear Comfort can have the best water quality possible with minimal chlorine exposure. Clear Comfort has been proven effective in universities, resorts, water parks, YMCAs, hotels, recreation centers, spas and homes nationwide.
