Winter Edition: The Best 5 Pool Environment Upgrades

Summers days are far behind us but the days of enjoying your pool and spa are not. Even as temperatures plunge, there are ways you can still swim, exercise and relax in your home pool or hot tub.

So hold off on hanging up that bathing suit, here are the five best winter-friendly pool environment upgrades.

1. Add a winter pool heat pumps or a heating systems

If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to enjoy your water in the colder months – look no further. Equipping your pool with a heating system is a great way to keep the water at a comfortable temperature year-round and maximize its use.

When it comes to heating your pool, there are various options available. Gas heaters operate by burning propane or natural gas and are one of the most effective ways to heat your pool – regardless of the surrounding temperature. Gas heaters are one of the quickest ways to heat your pool, but they are also one of the least energy-efficient.

If you’re located in a moderate climate or want an energy-efficient pool heating option,  air-sourced or solar-powered heat pumps are a great solution. Air-sourced and solar-powered heat pumps generate energy from the surrounding environment and transfer it to heating your pool. While they may take more time to heat your pool than a gas heater, they are more energy-efficient and cost-effective.

2. Cover your pool

Once your pool is nice and heated, the next step is to keep your heating costs nice and low with a pool cover. A great pool cover option is solar blankets, which act as a barrier between the water and the surrounding air. Using a solar blanket on your heated pool can help you save up 50 percent to 70 percent on your heating costs. Additionally, pool covers can help you save water, reduce chemical consumption and maintain a cleaner pool by keeping leaves, sticks and dirt out of the water.

3. Get a hot tub or spa

If you’re not interested in heating your entire pool, hot tubs and spas are one of the best ways to enjoy the water in the cold winter months. By just heating your hot tub – instead of your entire pool – you will save a significant amount of money on your energy bill throughout the winter months.

In addition, there is nothing like sitting back and relaxing in a hot tub on a cold winter day. Dipping into your hot tub is a great way to unwind after winter activities, like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding or hiking. Hot tubs are also proven to have added health benefits, such as relieving mental and physical stress, easing muscle pain, improving circulation and more.

4. Upgrade to an underwater treadmill

If you prefer being more active in your pool, but don’t want to brave the frigid winter temperatures, an underwater treadmill might be the answer. During the winter – or even in the warmer seasons – underwater treadmills are a great way to get exercise in the water without leaving the comfort of your own home.

5. Install non-chlorine sanitation

Now that you know how to enjoy, relax and exercise the water during the winter, you need to make sure that you have the best water quality possible. If chlorine-induced dry skin in the cold winter air is keeping you out of the water, a non-chlorine Clear Comfort AOP system is the perfect solution.

By minimizing chlorine use, you can forget about the odor and irritations that come along with it. In addition, Clear Comfort AOP systems are great for improving air quality around your indoor pool, hot tub or underwater treadmill and give you the best water quality on the market.

With these five winter-friendly pool environment upgrades, you can enjoy your pool and/or spa hot tub all the way through the upcoming cold winter months. So now you can take that bathing suit out of the closet and get back in the water!
