shutterstock_87283357The Association of Aquatics Professionals has announced a new designation for the aquatics industry — the Designated Aquatics Professional (AqP).

The AOAP says the purpose of creating this designation is to “assist in the recognition of individuals in the aquatics field as professionals.” Aquatics professionals can apply online through the AOAP website.

To qualify, aquatics professionals must be a current member of the AOAP, complete the RESPECT Drowning Prevention Education, possess a current AFO/CPO/PPM+/Aqua Tech or equivalent certification, possess a Lifeguard Instructor or Water Safety Instructor certification, and possess a CPR/AED or First Aid certification.

In addition, the AOAP says successful applicants should have a minimum of two years of full-time aquatics experience or four years of part-time experience. Continuing education credits are also required. The designation lasts for three years.
