To qualify, aquatics professionals must be a current member of the AOAP, complete the RESPECT Drowning Prevention Education, possess a current AFO/CPO/PPM+/Aqua Tech or equivalent certification, possess a Lifeguard Instructor or Water Safety Instructor certification, and possess a CPR/AED or First Aid certification.
In addition, the AOAP says successful applicants should have a minimum of two years of full-time aquatics experience or four years of part-time experience. Continuing education credits are also required. The designation lasts for three years.
