Now that it’s fall, you might be faced with the tedious task of closing your pool. However, if you don’t close your pool properly – next spring you will also be faced with time-consuming and expensive repairs.

But we have good news – it’s not too late to avoid time-consuming and expensive post-winter pool repairs. Here we’ve listed 3 reasons why you’ll thank yourself for closing your pool the right way.

1. Save money

Taking care of your pool is similar to taking care of your car – if you don’t keep up with regular maintenance, you’ll end up paying for it in the end. So, do your future self (and wallet) a favor by doing small pool closing tasks that will prevent big expensive repairs. For example, if you don’t drain water from your pool lines now – water left can freeze, expand and burst your pool plumbing – which would cost you a pretty penny. Additionally, the same thing can happen to your equipment, if water is left in your pump, filter or heater in the winter – the freezing temperatures can expand the water and ruin your equipment.

2. Avoid wasting weeks (or even months) of your time

Once the weather warms up in the spring and you’re ready to jump in your pool again – the last thing you’ll want to do is wait for your get your pool to get repaired and fixed. Unlike money, you can’t get your time back. So even if you don’t mind paying to get your pool plumbing redone or your equipment replaced in the spring because you didn’t drain them in the fall – you’ll still have to put your pool party of the season on hold until those things are done. Just think about it this way – the better of a job you do closing your pool, the sooner you’ll be able to use it in the spring.

3. Vanity

If you want to ignore brushing your pool surfaces and equipment before your close your now – be prepared to find them covered in algae in the spring. Similarly to brushing your teeth, it’s important to brush the hard-to-get area of your pool, i.e. behind ladders, steps, corners, etc. So, remember to take care of the pool environment you have by using an algaecide, balancing your water, vacuuming and brushing your pool surface and other tasks listed in our pool closing guide.
